I am not a fan of traditional Romanian food, but I do have a few dishes that I love. One of them are called Sarmale, which are basically made out of ground meat (pork, veal or mixed), rice, condiments and sour cabbage leafs.

Since I am doing the ketogenic diet and I am not eating carbs, I have added sunflower seeds instead of rice and I can promise you that the taste is the same. You won`t even notice that there is no rice.
~Pentru ca am decis sa elimin carbohidratii din dieta, am adaugat seminte de floarea soarelui in locul orezului in compozitia pentru sarmale. Va garantez ca nu veti simti diferenta!
To make this dish you will need / Ai nevoie de
Pork ground meat / carne tocata de porc
Veal ground meat / carne tocata de vita
Sunflower seeds / seminte de floarea soarelui
Avocado (optional) / avocado (optional)
Salt, pepper, oregano / sare, piper, oregano
Sour cabbage leafs / frunze de varza acra
Preparation / Mod de preparare:
You mix the ground (minced) meat with the condiments, chopped avocado and sunflower seeds. This composition will now have to be rolled up in cabbage leafs: you take a small amount of the composition (one tablespoon) and roll this amount in a leaf.
~Se amesteca carnea tocata cu condimentele, avocado-ul taiat marunt si semintele de floarea soarelui. Sarmalele se invelesc in frunza de varza.
After rolling the meat in cabbage leafs, we arrange them in a pot and boil them for 1 hour and a half. We leave them there until the meat is done and the cabbage softens.
~Le punem la fiert pentru 1 ora jumatate.
