Chanel Fashion Show in an incredible train station for its Cruise 2020 show

For the first show helmed by Virginie Viard, the director of Chanel'sfashion collections, taking over from Karl Lagerfeld in February, the Cruise 2020 collection was unveiled under the dome of the Grand Palais.

The location was created to look like the heart of a Beaux-Arts style train station that the models walked, another shining example of Chanel's spectacular capacity for imagination. Its strong ties with travel, whether to Saint Tropez, Edinburgh or Venice were aptly highlighted in a show headed straight for the sunshine.

This fashion show represented a voyage back to the essence of Chanel

The house of Chanel has held travel at the heart of its ethos, its sights always set on the horizon. Throughout his time at Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld stayed true to Coco Chanel's passion, unveiling his Cruise 2008 collection at Santa Monica airport, orchestrating a show aboard a boat, floating on the Seine in 2004, and more recently, in a dreamed-up airport terminal. Today, it was up to Virginie Viard to pay tribute to the legacy of the house. In tune with Chanel'sheritage and Métiers d'Art collections, she transformed the nave of the Grand Palais into a beautiful Beaux-Arts train station.
